I was referring to this book in particular, which, at the time was only the second Hard Case crime book that I have read. I've read three more since finishing this one, and will soon post about them, with mixed results but very much look forward to checking others out. I do have a copy of Little Girl Lost so maybe that will be the next one.

Sorry for the typo in my first attempt to post a comment (what I get for trying to type into a cell phone keypad from a moving car). What I wanted to say was that quite a few Hard Case Crime books have been nominated for the Edgar...5 in the past 5 years, in fact: THE CONFESSION by Domenic Stansberry, LITTLE GIRL LOST by Richard Aleas, KISS HER GOODBYE by Allan Guthrie, ROBBIE'S WIFE by Russell Hill, and MONEY SHOT by Christa Faust (and one of them, THE CONFESSION, won the award). And that's just counting their original novels. Of their reprints, in addition to GRAVE DESCEND, Donald E. Westlake's THE CUTIE was also nominated for an Edgar. That's 7 nominees out of 60 books published to date - more than 10%! So "they really aren’t to the level of something that is nominated for an Edgar" doesn't seem right to me.

I don't see the 2010 date on "The Cloud-Shirt" on the wiki page any more, which is good. Vollmann is working the most on the fifth dream right now (Chief Joseph and the Nez Perce Indians and might be called "The Grass-Shirt") and that should hopefully be the next book out from him after "Kissing the Mask," so 2011. The fourth dream is being worked on too (was once to be King Philips War and now it seems that it will be about Hawaii and Captain Cook).
I understand your feelings, I am really hungry for more of the Seven Dreams. And more fiction in general from him.

R.I.P. Bettie Page. You were loved by many, and an inspiration to all. You have been an icon for generations, with only modeled for only a few years. Imortalized in magazines and merchandise, modeled but never matched. You will be revered, loved, and missed. We love you, Bettie. God bless
